Suggested 3-day itinerary for Cairns
Day 1:
Your first day in Cairns should be spent wandering around the city itself and doing some exploring. Head down to the Esplanade for a look around and a swim in the man-made lagoon pool that overlooks the Trinity inlet. Enjoy some shopping in the area and treat yourself to a delicious lunch at one of the many restaurants and cafes within the Esplanade.
Once your belly is full, head to the Cairns Zoom and Wildlife dome. Here you can zip line over a huge saltwater crocodile enclosure, hold an adorable koala, and get up close and personal to some unbelievably unique Australian animals. For the evening on your first day, we recommend you visit the Cairns night markets, here you can pick up some unique souvenirs, grab a tasty dinner, and shop till you drop!
Day 2:
On your second day in Cairns there is nothing better to do than to head out on a day tour of the Great Barrier Reef. Taking a day trip is the perfect way to see this stunning wonder of the world and will enable you to experience everything on offer. You may get the chance to dive and snorkel with marine life, swim in the crystal-clear waters and learn all about this unbelievable eco system from your expert tour guide. There is also the option to check out the Great Barrier Reef from a different perspective on the ocean safari or a scenic flight over the reef.
Day 3:
Cairns is known for being the gateway to the Barrier Reef, however there is another phenomenal region located just an hour north of Cairns and that is the Daintree Rainforest. This is the oldest rainforest in the world, 10 million years older than the Amazon!
