While Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium is strictly not in the CBD, this building by Cox Architects is an integrated engineering and architectural design. Refined using BIM to its lightest steel members possible, it also has a customisable light show courtesy of artist Alexander Knox (descendant of Alistair Knox) that always presents as a spectacle when cycling along the Yarra towards the city. This building has helped reinvent the practice of Cox, permitting them many similar large scale urban projects across Australia.
Read about it here and here, listen to it here or watch it here. Or better still, see it for yourself at a gig or a match.
